The public remains on the outside looking in following a plant explosion in Madill, OK
Lost in the news cycle following the International Nutrition plant explosion in Omaha, NE was another explosion that left two workers dead at the Mid-American Steel and Wire plant in Madill, Oklahoma. The explosion happened six hours after the Omaha blast.
According to medical examiners, the two victims have been identified as 38-year-old Gonzalo Martinez and 23-year-old Brody Davenport. A third worker was hospitalized and will likely survive, Sheriff Ed Kent told KXII Channel 12:
“The staff had taken a burn victim to Marshall Memorial Hospital, ” Kent said. “The last report I got on him was he was going to be alright. I believe they were going to treat him and release him and fire marshal was called and medical examiner was called.”
OSHA is currently investigating the explosion. Sheriff Kent told KTEN that natural gas was used in the factory but would not speculate as to its role in the explosion. Details have been slow to develop. Authorities say they will provide further information upon completion of the OSHA investigation.
